A Journey That Began With Flowers
What started as a final-year Chemical Engineering project called Begin With Flowers grew through experimentation, failed ideas, handmade products, exhibitions and years of learning into Kalla — a purpose-led lifestyle, gifting and wellness brand.
Today, we continue to explore how flowers can be given a meaningful second life while creating useful products, supporting women’s livelihoods and encouraging more conscious everyday choices.
A second life, step by step
For Kalla’s flower-upcycled ritual products, the journey begins before a finished product takes shape.
Flowers are collected from suitable sources including temples, home poojas, organisations, weddings, events and celebrations. They then move through a careful process before the flower material can become part of selected Kalla products.
Collect
Used flowers arrive at Kalla from suitable collection sources.
Segregate
Used flowers arrive at Kalla from suitable collection sources.
Wash & Prepare
The flowers are washed and the petals are prepared for processing.
Dry
The flower material is dried using sun-drying or controlled drying.
Pulverise
Once dry, the flower material is turned into a fine powder.
Create
This powder is used as a key raw material for agarbatti, dhoop, and havan products.
Sustainability, without the buzzwords
For Kalla, sustainability is not about adding an “eco-friendly” label to every product.
Flower Upcycling
Selected Kalla ritual products use processed flower material as an important raw material.
Thoughtful Production
The process combines material recovery, careful preparation and hands-on making rather than treating discarded flowers as simply another waste stream.
